EnvironPact presents pioneering dynamic quantitative risk analysis project for blowout prevention at WSOP 2025

EnvironPact, OceanPact’s consulting firm subsidiary, presented a project involving the development and application of an innovative method for quantitative blowout risk analysis during the 2025 Well Safety Workshop (WSOP), organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

The workshop took place in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro State, on August 12 and 13, bringing together industry specialists and leaders to discuss technical and regulatory solutions and challenges related to well integrity, with a focus on sharing best practices and innovation.

In addition to sponsoring the event, OceanPact contributed to the technical activities with a presentation titled “Dynamic Quantitative Analysis of Blowout Risks – A Bayesian Approach.” In this talk, Pedro Perez, EnvironPact’s director, explained this method’s technical basis and innovations, as well as highlighting its practical application in solving current industry problems. The method can accurately represent complex drilling scenarios, structurally integrate expert knowledge into analysis, incorporate human and organizational factors, and continuously update risk indicators based on new evidence or operational changes.

This project is the result of a partnership with the Petrobras Research Center, through a research, development and innovation cooperation agreement. The initiative represents a significant step forward in the management of major accident risks and promotes the strengthening of operational safety practices in the offshore sector.

In July, Pedro Perez gave a presentation on “Demystifying Critical Element Management” during a webinar hosted by the Technical Committee on Operations and Maintenance of the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Brazilian branch. His talk provided an integrated management view of critical operational safety elements, aligned with both ANP technical regulations and international best practices.
