OceanPact participated in the 2025 SP Offshore Conference, alongside public officials, business leaders and development institutions, to discuss the prospects for the offshore industry’s growth in the region. The carbon emissions generated during the event will be offset by EnvironPact, an OceanPact subsidiary that specializes in environmental solutions.
“As well as debating the challenges facing the offshore sector, we wanted to actively contribute to an event with a positive environmental impact. Carbon offsetting is an important step toward a vision of responsibility, allowing us to contribute to a more conscious and careful future,” said Ana Lyra, EnvironPact’s sustainability director.
Lyra took part in a panel discussion titled “The Environment and Regulation of Offshore Activities off the São Paulo Coast,” held on June 25, which addressed impact mitigation practices, sustainability and regulatory milestones for offshore activities. The director emphasized that environmental licensing should be understood as an instrument that enables economic development by offering legal certainty to projects committed to social and environmental responsibility.
During the event, Lyra presented the scope of marine spatial planning, an instrument under development that is expected to play a strategic role in future environmental licensing processes. Marine spatial planning is being developed in a participatory manner, in collaboration with different stakeholders, from government representatives to local communities. The goal is to organize the multiple uses of Brazil’s maritime territory in an integrated manner, promoting a balanced coexistence between activities such as oil and gas production, tourism, fishing and environmental conservation.
“Marine spatial planning is a modern and strategic tool that will enable a more rational, transparent and balanced use of our maritime space. It is a collective effort with the potential to transform the regulatory and environmental landscape in Brazil,” said Lyra.
