Brazil’s pioneering experience in mangrove restoration was shared with leading figures in the sector during the Society for Ecological Restoration’s 11th World Conference on Ecological Restoration (SER 2025), held in Denver, Colorado.
OceanPact’s sustainability and new business director Fernando Borenszteinn and R&D analyst Bruna Debastiani presented solutions that combine science, technology and knowledge of local traditions to regenerate vital ecosystems, increase the success of restoration efforts and strengthen the role of local communities.
Highlights of the project presented by OceanPact:
• Forest inventories of sites (in 2013, 2017 and 2021);
• 12 hectares of mangroves restored in Guanabara Bay;
• Use of probiotics, drones and robots to optimize processes;
• Advanced monitoring with LiDAR and e-DNA;
• Partnerships with local communities and the launch of stingless beekeeping projects to generate income and strengthen ecological awareness
“The idea is not for technology to replace community workers, but rather to facilitate their work by addressing the most difficult aspects,” stressed Bruna Debastiani.
Our participation in SER 2025 reaffirmed our commitment to innovation, applied science and the regenerative blue economy, connecting technology, nature and people for a more sustainable future.
