OceanPact discusses maritime asset management at SOBENA workshop

“A good asset is one that is ready to operate when the client needs it. That is what sustains performance, operational safety and results over time.” This reflection was shared by Érik Cunha, our commercial, marketing and new business director, during a recent workshop on the revitalization of vessels and oil and gas platforms, held by the Brazilian Naval Engineering Association (SOBENA) in partnership with the university and think tank FGV.

Cunha’s speech, titled “The importance of maritime asset management,” offered a straightforward assessment of the current state of the sector: an aging fleet, greater onboard technological complexity and increasing pressure for operational efficiency.

“The longer an asset operates, the greater the investment required and the higher the cost associated with its maintenance. Asset management is therefore the ability to make technical, operational and financial decisions throughout the asset’s entire life cycle, always focused on performance, safety and returns,” he said.

Cunha also highlighted that effective management requires a structured approach to integrity and predictive maintenance, amid the growing use of data, artificial intelligence, sensors and technologies that enable more proactive decision-making.

Given high vessel construction costs, the challenge is to extract more value from existing assets, ensuring safety, efficiency and a long-term perspective.
