“Brazil has everything it needs to lead the blue economy: unique natural capital, technical expertise, infrastructure and a growing political agenda. The time is now, and we are confident that with more investment and coordinated action, we can make the country a global leader,” said Amandine Chevé, OceanPact’s blue new business manager, at a recent event.
This vision for the future presented by the manager reflected the tone of the company’s participation in five international events dedicated to innovation, climate, marine conservation and sustainable finance, in particular the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), held in Nice, France.
During a panel called “From Nice to Belém – Scaling up Ocean Action Through Business Leadership,” Fernando Borensztein, new business and sustainability director at OceanPact, shared the company’s experience in the decarbonization process. “I had the opportunity to describe our decarbonization journey and share concrete examples of how we are working. It was enriching to confirm with the other panelists that we are on the right track, with a focus on innovation and international collaboration,” he said.
The debate was moderated by Gabriela Otero, manager of the UN Global Compact in Brazil, and also featured Martin Powell of AXA and Francisco HC Santos of Highgate, who discussed the strategic role of the private sector in the transition to a sustainable and climate-resilient ocean economy.
OceanPact also hosted an exclusive screening of the documentary “How Much Is the Blue Economy Worth?” in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro-based Urban Sea Institute. The screening, attended by OceanPact CEO Flavio Andrade and filmmaker Ricardo Gomes, founder of the institute, offered the audience a cinematic immersion into the reality of the blue economy and possible ways to combine economic development with the regeneration of marine ecosystems.
The OceanPact delegation was made up of CEO Flavio Andrade, Service Director (and EnvironPact CEO) Adriano Ranieri, New Business and Sustainability Director Fernando Borensztein, Sustainability Director Ana Lyra, Blue New Business Manager Amandine Chevé, and Blue Carbon Coordinator Geraldo Rios.
Over the course of June, OceanPact attended five strategic forums in Europe, expanding its contribution to the blue economy and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 14, which is dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources. The company continues to expand its global operations, combining innovation, international collaboration and concrete actions to promote the health of marine ecosystems.
