As part of the schedule of activities of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), one of the foremost global events dedicated to the future of the oceans and protection of the planet, OceanPact held a special screening of the Brazilian documentary “Quanto vale o azul?” (“How much is the blue economy worth?”), in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro-based Urban Sea Institute.
The screening took place on June 13 and was attended by Flavio Andrade, CEO of OceanPact, and Ricardo Gomes, the film’s director and founder of the Urban Sea Institute. After the session, both participated in a conversation about the strategic role of communication and business in building a new relationship with the oceans.
The documentary offers a cinematic immersion into the complex and promising reality of the blue economy, exploring ways to reconcile economic development with the preservation of marine ecosystems. Through striking images and testimonials, the film shows how sustainable management of ocean resources can protect biodiversity, drive innovation, generate jobs and promote social justice.
The session was held in the Nautilus Auditorium as part of an immersive experience called “Dive into the Whale” in UNOC3’s Green Zone in the Palais des Expos exhibition center in Nice. Free of charge and open to the public, the installation is a space for convergence between the global ocean community and civil society, highlighting the potential of audiovisual media as a tool for awareness raising and transformation.
UNOC3 is taking place from June 9 to 13, 2025, in Nice, France, organized by the French and Costa Rican governments. The main objective is to accelerate concrete actions to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and their resources, in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 14.
OceanPact’s participation in UNOC3 was part of a broad agenda of international activities in forums focused on the blue economy. Company representatives have recently been attending several meetings across Europe, including the Blue Innovation and Business Fair in Lisbon, the Gold Standard Conference in Paris, the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco, and Wind for Goods in Saint-Nazaire, France.
