Pedro Perez and Carlos Leandro represented EnvironPact, OceanPact’s consulting division, at a workshop called “Challenges for the Installation of Offshore Wind Farms in Brazil,” held in October in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The meeting brought together leaders, researchers and professionals from the sector to discuss recent advances and the next steps for offshore wind energy projects in the country.
Organized by the SENAI Institute for Innovation in Renewable Energy (ISI-ER), the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Ocean Energy Pathway (OEP), with support from the Brazilian Navy and the Rio Grande do Norte State Federation of Industry (FIERN), the workshop highlighted the importance of cooperation between companies, institutions and the government for the sustainable and safe development of offshore power.
Pedro Perez, EnvironPact’s director, took part in a roundtable titled “Risk Analysis and Control Measures in Offshore Wind Farm Operations, According to IALA G1018 – 2022 and IALA G1121 – 2017.” The session also featured DNV engineer Bruno Wehmuth and was moderated by naval engineer Raíza Silva of ISI-ER.
OceanPact’s innovation and new business manager, Carlos Leandro, moderated a roundtable titled “The Importance of Measuring and Collecting Meteorological and Oceanographic Data for Offshore Operations – The Experience of EPE and Brazil’s National Grid Operator (ONS).” This panel also included Charles Egberto Guedes Vonnegut Vieira de Mello from the Brazilian government’s Energy Research Company (EPE), as well as Lieutenant Commander Elias de Castro Nadaf and Lieutenant Diego Pedroso, both from the Navy Hydrographic Center (CHM).
