OceanPact plays an active role at COP30

OceanPact took part in COP30 with a delegation that attended ocean-related discussions and contributed to several panels and initiatives. Our CEO, Flavio Andrade, joined a roundtable on “The Blue Economy and Climate Change,” organized by the National Institute for Oceanic Research. Leticia Mendes, OceanPact’s sustainability manager, spoke on a panel titled “All Roads Lead to the Sea,” held by the UN Global Compact’s Brazilian Network. Amandine Chevé, our blue new business manager, participated in two events during the week: the third Seaweed Forum and a discussion on building a “Positive Future for Nature.”

In addition to participating in key debates, we also carried out activities designed to encourage reflection, including a screening of the documentary “How Much Is the Blue Economy Worth?” by Ricardo Gomes of the Rio de Janeiro-based Urban Sea Institute, a project supported by OceanPact, followed by a roundtable discussion on the film’s themes.

We also facilitated the delivery of letters written by 90 students from Curitiba to government leaders. The messages traveled aboard our Rio-Belém expedition, on a sailboat that spent around a month collecting environmental DNA samples along the Brazilian coast. The material will be analyzed by NatureMetrics, which will allow us to expand our knowledge of the marine ecosystem in the areas visited.

The technology used in the expedition and its importance in advancing ocean science were highlighted in an in-depth report in the newspaper O Globo.
