OceanPact provided technical support to Petroecuador in response to the serious oil spill that occurred in March 2025 in the province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador. The incident, caused by the rupture of the Trans-Ecuadorian Oil Pipeline after a landslide, released more than 25,000 barrels of oil into the environment, impacting water bodies, protected areas of habitat and local communities.
Specialists from OceanPact Group consulting firms EnvironPact and Aiuká carried out flyovers with the Ecuadorian Army to survey the affected area, assess the damage and support the formulation of response strategies.
The actions taken prioritized the protection of sensitive ecosystems, the monitoring and cleaning of affected areas, the rescue and rehabilitation of affected wildlife, and the implementation of an Incident Command System for emergency management.
The OceanPact team also prepared a detailed technical diagnosis and presented strategic recommendations to mitigate environmental impacts and strengthen the efficiency of the response.
The experience of OceanPact, EnvironPact and Aiuká in major emergencies demonstrates the group’s commitment to environmental protection and its ability to act quickly and in a structured manner in complex situations.
