OceanPact takes part in panels and presents initiatives at Colacmar-CBO 2024

The 2024 edition of the Latin American Marine Science Congress (Colacmar) and Brazilian Oceanography Congress (CBO), the leading technical and scientific event in Latin America in the field of marine knowledge, took place from August 13 to 16 in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, bringing together 2,400 participants from 23 countries, including oceanographers, specialists, academics, representatives of government agencies and companies, and students.

OceanPact’s team members participated in the event as speakers, moderators and presenters of technical initiatives.

Marcia Carolina da Costa spoke about “Operational Oceanography in Latin America,” Leticia Vazquez discussed the use of autonomous vehicles to collect data in the ocean, Geraldo Rios talked about challenges and opportunities involving mangrove conservation, Luiza Saraiva of EnvironPact discussed her research poster on pollution in aquatic environments, and Adriano Ranieri took part in a panel on “The Importance of Data Integration for Decision Making and Marine Spatial Planning.”

According to the managing director of OceanPact’s Services segment, Adriano Ranieri, “maritime spatial planning in Brazil’s southeastern territorial waters will allow an unprecedented systemic view of the marine environment’s existing and potential resources, enabling more assertive decision making.”

In another panel discussion, OceanPact’s commercial and marketing director, Érik Cunha, addressed technological advances and improved controls in the area of emergency response. He emphasized the importance of early detection of oil spills and the need for quick and effective responses. In his presentation, he highlighted the OceanPact Digital platform, a robust tool that integrates radar data, wind models and other key variables for maritime operations.

“We use OceanPact Digital for advanced simulations and ocean forecasts, increasing the safety, precision and effectiveness of operations,” he said.

Andrea Gallo, Luana Machado and Letícia Vazquez presented their work on numerical modeling and forecasting, Fred Marins moderated a panel on oceanography in offshore support, Leonardo Barreira spoke about renewable energies, and Arthur Kós talked about an innovative platform for environmental emergency response.
