“OceanPact Talks” event highlights the strategic role of incident commanders in emergencies

OceanPact, in partnership with QT Environmental, recently held an event called “OceanPact Talks: Incident Commander,” bringing together professionals from leading companies in the Brazilian oil and gas industry to discuss challenges and best practices in incident management.

The event featured Mark Ploen, president of QT Environmental, a leading international expert in offshore emergency response with direct experience in complex environmental crises, including the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska and a series of pipeline ruptures in Russia’s Komi region. He shared valuable lessons from these incidents, which have impacted the sector globally.

The conversation was led by Flavio Andrade, OceanPact’s CEO, who also has firsthand experience of major emergency response operations, including Deepwater Horizon. His perspective reinforced the importance of incident commanders as a central figure in decision making in crisis situations.

More than a technical debate, the meeting was an opportunity to strengthen connections among professionals and companies, as well as expand knowledge to improve the effectiveness of incident management in Brazil.
