The use of onboard drones has expanded the capacity for detecting and monitoring oil spills at sea. At OceanPact Tech, one of our business units, this technology has been systematically integrated into operations on oil spill response vessels (OSRVs), adding a dedicated aerial layer for monitoring and coordinating containment efforts.
Supported by an inventory of 25 drones, our operation is tailored to each client’s needs and enable the visualization of oil slicks and objects on the sea surface. The images are transmitted in real time to response centers, enhancing situational awareness and allowing faster, more accurate decision-making.
The operation was structured to fully meet vessel requirements, with specific protocols for onboard drone use, dedicated teams and redundant systems that ensure safety, continuity and reliability at every stage.
In addition to image capture, our teams undergo specialized training in aerial observation of environmental incidents, with a focus on analyzing oil slick dimensions. This training adds technical value to analysis of the extent, thickness and dynamics of slicks.
