OceanPact workshop at Clean Gulf 2025 highlights Brazil’s maturity in responding to environmental emergencies

“With each edition, it becomes clearer how much Brazil has advanced in emergency response.” This statement by Adriano Ranieri, the CEO of OceanPact’s consulting arm, EnvironPact, set the tone for the workshop “Resilience and Innovation in Oil Spill Response,” held by OceanPact on November 18 during Clean Gulf 2025 in New Orleans. For the third consecutive year, this meeting brought together specialists who have helped elevate Brazil’s international standing in this field.

Patricia Maggi and Cintia Levita of the Brazilian Environmental Protection Agency (IBAMA), Emily Farias of Trident Energy, Leandro Brandão of PRIO and Tatiana Mafra of BW Energy discussed progress in community engagement, technology and cross-border response, sharing frontline experiences and lessons that have made operations in Brazil faster and more effective.

The conversation then turned to human factors and safety culture. Luiz Bispo of the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), Alex Garcia of BW Energy and Ricardo Canela of Karoon Energy offered insights on prevention, operational communication and the everyday challenges of emergency response.

In addition to the workshop, OceanPact group executives gave three technical presentations at Clean Gulf 2025. Pedro Furtado of EnvironPact outlined the evolution of wildlife management in emergency response, striking a balance between in-person and remote models. Marcos Andrade of EnvironPact presented the results of 24/7 remote radar monitoring, showing significant gains in accuracy. Finally, Marcia Costa of OceanPact detailed how high-frequency radar and artificial intelligence are expanding the ability to predict movements and respond more quickly to offshore incidents.
