School sponsored by OceanPact receives UNESCO Blue School certification

Maria Leopoldina Municipal School, located near our head office in Glória, Rio de Janeiro, has become a member of the UNESCO Blue Schools Program and received “Blue School” certification. This recognition is granted to schools that integrate ocean culture into their curriculum. It certifies that the institution values and promotes knowledge about the oceans through the development of practical sustainability and marine conservation initiatives. Maria Leopoldina Municipal School has been part of OceanPact’s Ocean Environmental Education Project since 2024, involving students from early childhood education to elementary school grades.

The project is carried out by the company’s Corporate Sustainability team in partnership with NGO Rio Education Partners and supported by the Rio-based Urban Sea Institute. The school received the news that it had received Blue School certification on World Environmental Education Day, celebrated on January 26.

“This achievement reaffirms our commitment to promoting ocean culture and building a more aware and sustainable future,” said Leticia Mendes, OceanPact sustainability manager.

Together with students, educators and families, we promote engagement with ocean literacy and biodiversity protection, turning environmental awareness into everyday practice at the school.
