The first edition of OceanPact’s Technical Paper Showcase brought together nine projects that reflect the diverse interests and knowledge of its employees.
The papers presented a wide variety of topics, including community participation in the management of dam disaster risks, human reliability in the oil and gas industry, mercury bioaccumulation in La Plata dolphins (a species found exclusively along the South American Atlantic coast), and Brazil’s geopolitical expansion into the Arctic territory. Other papers looked at green hydrogen produced from offshore wind power, urban rivers as vectors of marine pollution, the impact of solid waste on tetrapods, the transmission of Chagas disease in zoos, and environmental education as a path toward sustainability.
The event provided a forum to share ideas, recognize efforts and inspire new talent. The participants in the showcase included Daniela Louzada, Luiza Volschan, Pedro Charnaux and Tainá Pellegrino from OceanPact; Emi Brinatti Guari, Marcelo Curvelo and Patrick Costa from EnvironPact; and Rodrigo Del Valle and Suelen Ferreira from environmental consulting firm Aiuká. After attending the presentations, the audience voted for the three most outstanding papers.
According to EnvironPact’s technical director, Pedro Perez, the initiative underscored the importance of internal knowledge production and management. “This is more than a showcase of technical papers; it materializes the extra effort each author has made to produce and share knowledge. This process benefits our employees, the company and society as a whole,” he said.
First place went to OceanPact’s purchasing analyst Pedro Charnaux for his paper “Brazilian Geopolitical Expansion into the Arctic Territory.” In second place, Aiuká veterinarian Suelen Ferreira presented “One Health: Transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi at São Paulo Zoo.” Third place was earned by climate change specialist Luiza Volschan for her study “The Green Hydrogen Market Based on Offshore Wind Power Generation in Brazil.”
